Eco Work-Shop finds the space it needs

temporary office space

When local organisation, Eco Work-Shop, opened its doors again after many months of lockdown, it was difficult at first to see how everyone would be able to safely return to their South Warwickshire base, just outside Stratford-upon-Avon.

Based in Clifford Chambers, Eco Work-Shop is a not-for-profit CIC, which has been operating for seven years. It strives to improve the well-being and lives of adults with learning disabilities and autism, supporting and encouraging all participants to achieve their potential and take their skills to the workplace. They learn new, purposeful work-related skills through a wide range of stimulating, varied and tailored work-based activities and initiatives to successfully participate in the UK’s adult workforce.

Having closed due to the Covid pandemic on 23rd March, Eco Work-Shop was finally able to re-open almost five months later on 17th August. However, with space now an issue, due to the government’s two metre social distancing requirements, the staff were scratching their heads as to how they could provide much needed face-to-face interaction with their participants while adhering to Covid secure guidelines. As their office was simply not large enough to accommodate everybody under the new restrictions, they used a variety of methods including video calls to maintain contact while busily searching for additional space solutions. Having been fortunate to receive a very kind donation, the Eco Work-Shop team investigated a number of options before contacting neighbouring Showplace.

Eco Work-Shop’s service manager, Alannah Bayliss, commented, “We are so fortunate to have received a very kind donation, and following investigations into log cabins and portacabins, we popped into Showplace where Desiree and the team were so helpful and found us a solution.”

Showplace installed one of its temporary MODA structures, which was decorated with attractive woodland themed tension fabric graphics, chosen by the Eco Work-Shop team. Quick to install on hard or softer ground, the MODA structures are perfect for providing much needed additional indoor space. They can be supplied with heating and electrical supply so are suitable for use throughout the year, even in the colder months!

With their new structure in use for only a very short period of time, Eco Work-Shop decided to add a little more space to their business and are now also hiring one of Showplace’s fleet of event trailers.

Commenting on their further expansion, Alannah said, “Having bought our new structure, which we have named ‘Katie’s pod’, in honour of our extremely generous donor, we have since gone on to hire one of Showplace Ltd’s trailers to increase our capacity further and enable us to fully open and offer pre-Covid sessions to our participants once again. We now also have all of our staff back on site too so all in all, a very successful solution! Showplace has offered Eco Work-Shop an efficient and cost effective solution to our need for additional space. It is thanks to their temporary building solutions and the support of the friendly Showplace team that we are able to full re-open our service as soon as November 2020. Thank you!”
